From parents to children

When we are young we may not recognize it, but parents are the best counselors we can have in life!

One of the main lessons that parents must teach their children is the concept of freedom and respect for others. We live in a free society, where everyone has the right to express their ideas (with the respective consequences, of course) and we must respect each person’s individuality, just as each individual must respect his own.

There are bad things in the world, without a shadow of a doubt… But there are also very good things, no one can deny it!
And this is another important lesson: learning to see the positive side of life!
Bear in mind that even in the most difficult situations we must maintain optimism and hope.

Parents should not demand that their children be perfect, but be aware that they can YES make mistakes. The main learning here is not in “being perfect”, but in the ability to learn from the mistakes made.
Failures are fundamental to people’s growth. Parents need to teach their children not to give up at the first mistakes, but to keep getting up with every tumble they take, shake the dust and turn around!

Being around people who give you good energy is essential to having a happy life. It is important for parents to teach their children the importance of valuing true friendship.

Many people may doubt and question your abilities, but if you NEVER put your value in “check”, believe that you will be able to conquer all your dreams!

And finally, the main message that parents must pass on to their children is based on two small and great phrases: “I love you” and “I’m proud of you”.
Children – especially when they are small – need to feel the encouragement and security of support from the people they consider most important in their lives: their parents.

“Teach a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 NIV

Pan Kids IBJJF 2022

Held last weekend, on July 23rd and 25th, the IBJJF Pan Kids brought together children and young people of the new generation together with their parents and coaches, for a great party at the Silver Spur Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.

For me, in particular, it was a great honor to be able to work and closely monitor the evolution of these young people. I usually say that I often learn from them. This new generation has been showing incredible skills on the biggest stage of the jiu-jitsu international, with the pressure to compete at a high level, as Pan Kids has already solidified itself as one of the toughest and heaviest tournaments in the youth divisions.

At the end of the event, I was able to conclude how pure the heart of each child who competed is, without malice, without ego, which makes Pan Kids one of the most exciting championships in the annual jiu-jitsu calendar, simply because it is true, and mold each child with honor, respect and loyalty.

Dennis Jiu-Jitsu Club consolidates in the formation of champions

Considered one of the main teams of master Jiu-jitsu athletes (over 30 years old) in Paraná, Dennis Jiu-jitsu Club from Maringá is today one of the holders of the largest number of athletes who stand out in the main competitions in Brazil and in the world . The most recent demonstration came in Rio de Janeiro at the Brazilian National 2021 – organized by the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Confederation (CBJJ).

The championship is considered by the professors as the main one in the country and for many, more difficult than any international competition, after all, Brazil is still the biggest ‘exporter’ source of talent in the gentle art in the world. One of the team’s highlights was the brown belt Juares Santos. The ultra-heavy skinny – current number 1 in the world in the category – won first place on the podium at weight and in the absolute.

Another who returned to competition is veteran Maykel Marques. In the brown belt, he got the silver. “They are two experienced competitors who had very difficult fights and represented our team well. In the case of Juares, once again, he showed that training and dedication give expressive results. He is an athlete who has made a difference”, said Edenilson Lima team creator – Dennis – who remains in the United States.

In Brazil, Dennis Jiu-jitsu Club is an arm of Lead BJJ – headed by Professor Bruno Bastos. In Maringá, the person responsible for guiding the athletes in competitions is the black belt Anderson Sarris, who has in his curriculum the conquest of South American in the black belt, among other achievements – such as the Brazilian and several open competitions organized by the CBJJ.

“I learned a lot being close to great names in the gentle art, great athletes and great coaches, and I can only thank for this privilege. Learning has been constant and this reflects the athletes who went to compete and brought great results, athletes who, however hard our lives are in this period of pandemic, committed to giving their maximum in training and paid the price of making the difference that it’s necessary to be champion, and that’s worthy of praise because it’s really not easy,” said Sarris.

“Thanks to God and my family, especially my wife Caina Santos. Thanks to my team Dennis Jiu-jitsu for helping me in training, to my masters Anderson Sarris and Edenilson Lima for their confidence in representing the team. To my students, thank you for all the support”, emphasized Santos after the victory in Rio de Janeiro.

My 4th Degree Black Belt

Another step taken on this long journey… 24 years in jiu-jitsu, 14 as a black belt… This weekend was more than special. In a great seminar, I had the opportunity to share knowledge alongside people I always had as idols of our sport … Robson Moura, Vitor Shaolin and Bruno Bastos were always references for me and to make the moment even more special I had the honor to be graduated with my 4th degree in black belt by my great friend Bruno Bastos, unique moment next to my idols, the guys that I always tried to mirror me …
Jiu-Jitsu for me is a lifestyle and I would like to give a special thanks to the guy who showed me the way to live every moment in the sport, my master Rodrigo Feijão the guy who formed me a black belt and put me on the stage… It would be perfect in the near future to have a great seminar with him and all these champions who have helped me a lot in the course of my career… My thanks also extend to my family, especially my wife Karine Marodim who is at my side all days encouraging and helping me in internal and external battles.

Professor and athlete from Maringa, Brazil won third place in Master World 2020

Reference in the formation of competing athletes, the black belt Edenilson Roberto Siqueira de Lima, Dennis, showed, in great style, that he also remains in full form to compete. The coach responsible for the Dennis Jiu-jitsu Club team is in the United States (USA) and fought the IBJJF (International Jiu-jitsu Federation) Master Jiu-Jitsu World Championship and finished the competition in third place.

Dennis fought in the black belt division, Master 2, medium weight with 21 registered athletes, requiring a total of five fights to be champion. “I got too worn out in the fight for the quarterfinals and ended up losing in the semi, taking third place. Being among the top three in the world in my division is undoubtedly a privilege ”, commented the professor and also a competitor.

In a year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, in which competitions were restricted worldwide, the bronze medal gains an even more special weight. “A turbulent year like the one we are going through for sure was a great achievement,” added Dennis. There in the USA, Lima was helped by also professor Steve Snyder. “With his help I did all my preparation for the World Master, he is responsible for the jiu-jitsu team at High Point in North Carolina”, thanked the black belt.

Four tips to go far in BJJ

“These are four concepts I’ve applied to my career and that I teach my students around the world,”

1- Pick a school

“With the globalization of BJJ, these days we have options when it comes to choosing a school. Understand that not always the best choice is the gym closest to you or cheapest. Doing thorough research online will help you evaluate the reputation of the team and teacher. Set your goal and try to learn whether the school fits your profile. Finally, take a trial class to know whether the environment and methodology suit you”.

2- Learn to listen

“Years of experience have made your teacher into a genuine leader. It’s in them that the student must place all their confidence on and off the mats. Those who have had the opportunity to sit down with a leader and hear stories and adventures of our sport know what I mean. What I see the most at gyms throughout the world are super-talented students that go on training but can’t achieve a successful career in BJJ, simply due to thinking they can make the decisions on their own. That’s a surefire way to waste talent. It’s not enough to be a talented student if you’re not willing to listen to your master”.

3- Commit

“From the moment you become a part of the group, your commitment will make a difference and influence your results. No matter what your goal is on the mat — whether you’re striving for better health or to be a champion — cherish each moment. Avoid being late, turn off your phone and stay focused. Time moves fast, and the more a student gets involved with the class, the more knowledge they’ll acquire”.

4- Be organized

“Make a spreadsheet to separate your types of training sessions so that they don’t get in the way of each other. As you get organized, you will realize that our jiu-jitsu is much more ample, and in your free time you can study important stuff like the rulebook, articles and the enormous amount of video content available online”

JS won Open Class in European 2020

The IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which ended this past Sunday (26), in Odivelas, Portugal, as usual, made many people shine again on the mat with great achievements such as the case of Maringa athlete JS who returned with the dreamed of double gold.

Team Dennis jiu jitsu is considered one of the best master jiu jitsu teams in the south of Brazil, which means that athletes have arrived in all the championships they compete in and this time was no different, the determination of the athlete JS made all the difference having seen that he fought with an athlete of name and expression on the European and even world stage.

The athlete JS, traveled alone in search of the European title and managed to repeat the feat already obtained in 2019 when he was still competing on blue belt, and now in 2020 he was weight and absolute champion now in the purple belt, thus becoming twice European champion. of jiu jitsu.
The athlete who defends the team Dennis Jiu Jitsu, has been competing in big events for a long time but this was certainly a great challenge, “Getting there is not easy but staying champion is much more difficult because the opponents are studying more and more each other’s game “JS.

Now the athlete returns to Brazil to continue training for the next challenges ahead, the 2020 season is just beginning and Juares continues with the dream of playing in the World Championship in USA.
And the last day of the European Jiu Jitsu was destined for the black belt stars to show technique and pressure on the mats set up in the city gym. The highlights at the end of the seventh day of contests were for Fellipe Andrew, open class champion after submitting Keenan Cornelius. In the female category, Fion Davies gave a show and won double gold, being champion in the lightweight divisium and also in the open weight, beating Charlotte Von Baumgarten and Jessica Flowers, respectively.

Edenilson Lima, Anderson Sarris and Thiago Henrique Lima are the coaches responsible for preparing the athlete JS and other champions in Maringá, with classes ranging from children to more experienced athletes.

World Master 2018 – Las Vegas

Las vegas was the stage where athletes from Maringá definitely put their name in the history of jiu-jitsu were SN and Reinaldo “Peixe” dos Santos who made history by being the first two athletes of the Dennis Jiu-Jitsu team from Maringá to be world champions.

The Master World jiu-jitsu championship organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Federation IBJJF from August 22 to 25 in the city of Las Vegas Nevada USA, received athletes from all over the world between men and women all looking to be the best in the sport!

From Maringa Dennis Jiu-Jitsu Club team took 5 athletes to compete in the world master jiu jitsu being the Black Belt Edenilson Lima o Dennis, Eder Duarte o Sherek, the Purple Belt Reinaldo dos Santos ”Peixe”, the Blue Belt Maykel Marques and SN and the team returned with two world champions, namely Peixe Open Class division World Champion and Samuca World Champion in the lightweight division.

With each passing year the championship has been growing more and giving more value to the Masters since they are the great training elite of most of the current adult athletes, this year was no different and the championship also counted on a ceremony of recognition and award to the athletes who in the last 20 years have made history by being champions of the World Master.

On the second day of the competition, the athlete Samuca started his journey towards the title, tough fights where the fight strategy counted a lot because some fights had very fast finishes or that allowed the athlete to advance and reach the toughest fights with less body worn out what turned out to be an advantage over the other opponents and after winning the sixth fight Samuca became World Master champion.

On the last day of the event, Saturday the 25th was the turn of Reinaldo dos Santos better known as Peixe to do his part and seek his title, there were hard fights that caused fish to be stopped in the semifinal and thus won the third place in the super heavy division, which allowed him to compete in the open class which is when all the medalists of the belt get together to dispute the title of best of the best and at this time Peixe was superior to all and applied the whole strategy defined together with his master Edenilson Lima arriving until the final, this fight that ended in a draw and had the decision defined by the referees with a unanimous decision in favor of Reinaldo.

The athlete attacked more while his opponent had to be on the defensive almost the entire time of the fight.

With these two athletes winning the title and considering how many athletes came to compete this year I feel that we are on the way and in the future we may be coming with an even bigger delegation which will make us take more medals because I know the quality of my students, some are hitting the post but others are not here due to some condition that has not yet favored them, either financially or even due to the American visa, which over time fits together, Edenilson Lima “Dennis”.

The athletes have now returned to Brazil where they now continue with their training for the next challenges, after all, the interval between one season and another is very short and soon the 2018/19 season begins.

Edenilson Lima is a jiu-jitsu coach and athlete, for more than 10 years in the black belt, he teaches classes at the Maringa Training Center, with classes ranging from children to more experienced athletes.

Brunos Bastos has been a black belt athlete and coach for over 12 years, teaches classes in the city of Midland, texas USA, and teaches seminars around the world as well as being one of the creators of the LEAD BJJ team with academies around the world.
