World Master 2018 – Las Vegas

Las vegas was the stage where athletes from Maringá definitely put their name in the history of jiu-jitsu were SN and Reinaldo “Peixe” dos Santos who made history by being the first two athletes of the Dennis Jiu-Jitsu team from Maringá to be world champions.

The Master World jiu-jitsu championship organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Federation IBJJF from August 22 to 25 in the city of Las Vegas Nevada USA, received athletes from all over the world between men and women all looking to be the best in the sport!

From Maringa Dennis Jiu-Jitsu Club team took 5 athletes to compete in the world master jiu jitsu being the Black Belt Edenilson Lima o Dennis, Eder Duarte o Sherek, the Purple Belt Reinaldo dos Santos ”Peixe”, the Blue Belt Maykel Marques and SN and the team returned with two world champions, namely Peixe Open Class division World Champion and Samuca World Champion in the lightweight division.

With each passing year the championship has been growing more and giving more value to the Masters since they are the great training elite of most of the current adult athletes, this year was no different and the championship also counted on a ceremony of recognition and award to the athletes who in the last 20 years have made history by being champions of the World Master.

On the second day of the competition, the athlete Samuca started his journey towards the title, tough fights where the fight strategy counted a lot because some fights had very fast finishes or that allowed the athlete to advance and reach the toughest fights with less body worn out what turned out to be an advantage over the other opponents and after winning the sixth fight Samuca became World Master champion.

On the last day of the event, Saturday the 25th was the turn of Reinaldo dos Santos better known as Peixe to do his part and seek his title, there were hard fights that caused fish to be stopped in the semifinal and thus won the third place in the super heavy division, which allowed him to compete in the open class which is when all the medalists of the belt get together to dispute the title of best of the best and at this time Peixe was superior to all and applied the whole strategy defined together with his master Edenilson Lima arriving until the final, this fight that ended in a draw and had the decision defined by the referees with a unanimous decision in favor of Reinaldo.

The athlete attacked more while his opponent had to be on the defensive almost the entire time of the fight.

With these two athletes winning the title and considering how many athletes came to compete this year I feel that we are on the way and in the future we may be coming with an even bigger delegation which will make us take more medals because I know the quality of my students, some are hitting the post but others are not here due to some condition that has not yet favored them, either financially or even due to the American visa, which over time fits together, Edenilson Lima “Dennis”.

The athletes have now returned to Brazil where they now continue with their training for the next challenges, after all, the interval between one season and another is very short and soon the 2018/19 season begins.

Edenilson Lima is a jiu-jitsu coach and athlete, for more than 10 years in the black belt, he teaches classes at the Maringa Training Center, with classes ranging from children to more experienced athletes.

Brunos Bastos has been a black belt athlete and coach for over 12 years, teaches classes in the city of Midland, texas USA, and teaches seminars around the world as well as being one of the creators of the LEAD BJJ team with academies around the world.
